“I was lucky enough to spend a day working at the Grange (an incredibly warm-hearted and inspiring place) with a group of people from New Routes in Norwich. I led the group through a series of activities designed to foster confidence in telling stories; specifically true stories from the tellers’ lives. I host and co-run True Stories Live at Norwich Arts Centre which is a live storytelling event and community storytelling project. We’re looking to expand what we do in terms of working with different communities so this was a great opportunity for me to work with a new group of people with a whole range of different stories to tell. I wanted to be fairly flexible in my approach and not ask too much of the participants, many of whom had never taken part in a similar activity and many of whom did not have English as their first language. I was blown away by the way they engaged with the day, and hearing the stories shared at the end of the session was a huge pleasure and privilege.”
